How Agnico Eagle Mines feels the Mifid II effect

IR Magazine caught up with Brian Christie at the Canada Awards last month, where the firm took home five trophies

Agnico Eagle Mines typically travels to Europe four times per year and, in recent visits, Brian Christie, the company’s vice president of investor relations, says investors have been encouraging more direct engagement.

Speaking to IR Magazine on the red carpet at the Canada Awards last month, Christie said: ‘A lot more European investors are reaching out to us directly and saying, Don’t bring a broker. Just give us a call and set up a meeting.’

It was a big night for Agnico Eagle Mines, with the company taking home five trophies: best overall investor relations, best investor relations officer (Christie), best IR by senior management (shared by CEO Sean Boyd and CFO David Smith), best financial reporting and best IR in the materials sector.

In an interview with IR Magazine last year, Christie expanded on how supportive his senior management team is of IR efforts. Speaking about Boyd, Christie said: ‘He really understands the importance of interfacing with the investment community and the analysts. He puts a lot of time into marketing and seeing our investors.’
