IR Magazine is proud to introduce its new editorial board. It is made up of 12 seasoned investor relations professionals from across the world, each working at companies in different sectors and of varying cap sizes, but with one thing in common: a passion for pursuing excellence in the profession.
Over the coming weeks, we will be introducing you to each of our board members, who will be working alongside IR Magazine to advise our editorial team about emerging trends, themes and issues facing the profession around the world. You may also hear from them on the IR Voice podcast or on our videos and you might read their words in our weekly Editor’s Picks newsletter.
This week, we speak to Marina Calero, most recently head of IR at global events firm Hyve. She is also the founder of the IRO Coffee Breaks group and a regular contributor to both IR Magazine content and events.
How would you sum up your approach to IR in three words?
Clarity, proactivity, innovation. Or if I’m allowed a few more: CLEAR messaging and PROACTIVE engagement through INNOVATIVE solutions.
What’s been the biggest IR challenge of your career?
Keeping up with the pace while keeping the story relevant. I have worked in industries that are incredibly fast-paced, coupled with relentless capital markets and M&A activities under a transformation strategy umbrella. This means things can shift from one week to the next and keeping the equity story consistent, clear and relevant to investors is very tricky – even before bringing in never ending regulatory and ESG developments.
What would you have done if you hadn’t gone into corporate finance?
I am incredibly passionate about design and construction, so probably an interior architect or a fashion designer – I still make a lot of pieces I wear myself!
